    Bournemouth University’s Festival of Learning is back for 2018! With over 90 FREE events and activities that bring life to learning, there really is something for everyone.

     

    This year’s Festival will run from Saturday 16 – Wednesday 20 June with a jam-packed programme of opportunities to find out about BU’s exciting research and expertise, and have fun learning something new.

     

    This year’s guest speaker is the fantastic author and broadcaster Professor Alice Roberts who will be giving two talks at our Festival family day about the species that shaped our world.

     

    Science showman Ian B. Dunne will close the Festival with two performances of his Magic Science…Science Magic show that are sure to leave the whole family in stitches.

    Sorted in Dorset, an initiative set up by the team behind the fantastic Party in the Park, is bringing together once again the local communities in a bid to embrace both Bournemouth and Poole, and the intention to take this event further into the hinterland of Dorset with their latest twist on family enjoyment, showcasing the huge range of talent we have here on our doorstep be it deepest darkest Dorset or embracing our phenomenal coast line.

    Join us for the first event in Hamworthy Park on 21st & ‪22nd July, where you will be able to enjoy the tastes of locally produced food and drink whilst listening to talented resident musicians. With plenty to keep the whole family entertained, including children’s activities, we’ve got you sorted for something to kick start the summer!

    The festivities continue during the August bank holiday weekend, where Shelley Park will be transformed into a hub of local culture. Taking place ‪on Sunday 26th & ‪Monday 27th August, this will be the perfect way to round off the summer break!

    These two brilliant events will be helping raise funds for local causes including Friends of Hamworthy Park and Dorset’s Children’s Foundation.

    It’s back! This Easter come ‘down the rabbit hole’ for some great family fun at Lulworth Castle. Join us every day from Friday 30 March to Monday 2 April between 10.30-5pm.

    Inspired by the fantastical story of Alice in Wonderland, you can expect a whole host of fun activities including themed trails, Easter hunts, crafts, bouncy castle (weather permitting, age 7+), soft play for under 4s, crazy golf and, of course, white rabbits and Easter Eggs!!

    Don’t forget to go and meet the Mad Hatter in the Castle whilst you’re exploring ….Refreshments will be available including light lunches, cream teas, hot drinks, cakes and ice creams.

    Tickets include Free Parking. Adults £8, Child £6, under 4’s free. Family Ticket (2 adults, 3 children) £30.

    Poole Quay Boat Haven

    : The Poole Harbour Boat Show is free to attend, just turn up on the day!

    The Poole Harbour Boat Show is set to return for its fourth year in 2018. Taking place at the award-winning Poole Quay Boat Haven, the show will run from Friday June 8 until Sunday June 10.

    Event organisers Poole Harbour Commissioners (PHC) will welcome over 200 exhibitors across the quayside and marina; a showcase for sail and motorboats of all sizes, RIBs, chandlery products, clothing and watersports activities.

    Jim Stewart, PHC chief executive, said: “We’re excited to once again host this marvellous show in the harbour. Poole has such a rich maritime history and it’s a wonderful way to celebrate all that it has to offer.

    “We’ve got something for everyone; including taster sessions, rescue demonstrations, vessels of all sizes, and not forgetting the Friday night fireworks display to open the show.”

    The show continues to be the biggest ever free boat show on the south coast, providing an opportunity for those who may not have been on the water before to get a feel of what’s on offer.

    Welcoming the 2018 New Year in style, Lighthouse Holistic Festival in Poole, Dorset, celebrates its fourth annual event on the 24th and 25th February 2018. With a wonderful array of over 110 stands to explore, therapies to try and advice to improve health and well-being – Lighthouse will be buzzing.

    In addition, there are a host of free daytime talks featuring some wonderful speakers, artists and facilitators. Full programme details can be found on the web site. From Shakti dancing and shamanic drumming to the art of mindfulness, from crystal therapy to acupuncture, rune reading to sound therapy, from jewellery to Tibetan arts and some fantastic children’s activities, there is something for everyone.

    Event organiser Elaine Fenton says, ‘I love creating magical experiences for people – events which capture the imagination and it’s great to be back for a fourth year at Lighthouse to do just that’.
