The Dorset Polo Festival is on Saturday 24th June. Dorset Polo Club in Lytchett Matravers present a fun family day out from 10am – 6pm. There will be plenty of polo, a brilliant fun dog show, trade stands, bar, food tent, music & more. Tickets are £10 per person and under 14’s are free.

Dorset Bump to Baby Show 2017 is being held at The Riviera Hotel in Bournemouth. It’s a beautiful location and we’re aiming to make the day a really fun, relaxing and worthwhile experience for over 300 new and expectant parents with some very special guest speakers including the fantastic midwife and author, Mark Harris and author, midwife, blogger and hugely popular insta-mum Clemmie Hooper, a range of educational workshops and taster sessions, treatments and prenatal/postnatal exercise classes, 40 exhibitors showcasing and selling some of the best local pregnancy and baby related products and services and access to the hotel’s great spa and leisure facilities and restaurant.

This workshop is an ideal way to ease yourself into learning about smocking and create a freestyle postcard sampler.  You will be provided with all the materials necessary, including pre-pleated fabric, to learn a simple smocking stitch (or two) and create a postcard sampler.

The Tank Museum,

For the first time, The Tank Museum will be holding a special Father’s Day experience! On 18 June, explore the Museum, Vehicle Conservation Centre and Workshops and enjoy a delicious carvery lunch.

This advanced workshop will show you how to insert a piece of smocking into a slip cover for a book.  All materials will be provided including a suitable A5 size journal to be covered.

If you can, please bring with you a selection of sewing needles (including crewel needles), pins and a pair of small, sharp scissors, but don’t worry if you can’t as these will be available.  Also you may like to bring your sewing machine along to the second session.

The workshop will be held in the DCCA café and refreshments will be available.

‘The Conservation of Sea Music & Decay Mechanisms in Public Sculpture’

Talk by conservation expert Jane Foley & Brian Hall of Hall Conservation.

The Sea Music Celebration Lectures are part of a series of free special events, celebrating the conservation of the 25 year old Sea Music sculpture by Anthony Caro on Poole Quay.

Jane Foley specialist in the conservation of monuments and sculpture will speak about ‘Decay mechanisms in public sculpture to include those of painted steel or copper’ and then discuss the conservation of Sea Music with Brian Hall, head of our appointed conservators Hall Conservation. There will be time at the end for questions and discussion.

The Sea Music Celebration Lectures are part of a series of free special events, celebrating the conservation of the 25 year old Sea Music sculpture by Anthony Caro on Poole Quay.

Caro expert Julius Bryant, Keeper of Word & Image at The Victoria & Albert Museum, London, has interviewed Caro and written and spoken about his work extensively. He is the author of ‘Anthony Caro: A Life in Sculpture’, Anthony Caro: Figurative and Narrative Sculpture, co-author of ‘Caro: Close Up’ and co-editor of ‘Anthony Caro’. Julius Bryant will speak about the work of Caro with an opportunity for question afterwards.

Longham Community Pre-School would like to invite local families to join in the fun at their annual Summer Fayre fundraising event to be held on Saturday 20th May at 2pm – 4pm.

As a charity, fundraising events such as the Summer Fayre enable the Pre-school to invest further in resources to develop children’s learning.
