Morcombelake, Bridport, Dorset DT6 6EA

Kay and Julian would like to welcome you to Halsons Bed and Breakfast, located in Morcombelake, a small village close to the Jurassic coastline, between the market town of Bridport and the seaside town of Lyme Regis.
Halsons was built in the 1800s and was built mainly of flint; it stands in the centre of its own walled garden. It stands in an elevated position which allows fantastic views of the surrounding countryside.

Halsons Bed and Breakfast, although easily accessible from the A35, is tucked away down a small country lane. The house sits in its own walled garden and due to its elevated position has wonderful views of the surrounding countryside including Golden Cap. Hardown Hill, the parent peak of Golden Cap, is directly behind us. We have three rooms, two large doubles and a twin. All the rooms have been recently renovated, including new modern bathrooms with walk in showers. Each room has tea and coffee making facilities, flat screen TVs with free view channels, and a DAB radio alarm clock. As well as the large airy dining room there is a shared lounge for guest use and a patio which leads off of both the dining room and lounge. Guests have the option of eating their breakfast outside on the patio on warm days. On cooler days there is a wood burning stove in the lounge. There is free Wi-Fi and free parking.

We serve a full English breakfast as well as a selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurt and breads and tea and coffee.

We are surrounded by walking routes and bridle ways and are within walking distance of Golden Cap and the Jurassic Coast. The local bus stop is a 2-3 minute walk away with buses to Bridport, Dorchester and Weymouth in one direction and Lyme Regis, Axminster and Exeter in the other. Axminster train station is a 10 minute drive away with regular trains to London Waterloo and Exeter.

Milton Abbey Historic Church, Milton Abbas, Blandford Forum, Dorset, DT11 0BZ

Visit The Abbey At Milton

Discover over 1,000 years of history in the Abbey, founded by King Athelstan. This historic building and its unique environment and setting attracts visitors from around the world and provides a warm welcome to all. Located approximately 30 miles south-west of Salisbury, Milton Abbey can be found mid-way between the Georgian market town, Blandford Forum and Dorchester in Dorset. Limited parking is currently available in front of the School, and there is a low bridge (10’3″) giving restricted height on the road from Milton Abbas to Milton Abbey. The Milton Abbey Heritage Trust has been established as a registered charity for the protection, restoration, educational interpretation and development of The Abbey, St. Catherine’s Chapel and the surrounding Capability Brown landscape as buildings and land of historical and architectural importance. The Bishop of Salisbury has supported the Trust, working together to promote Christian worship and an enhanced visitor experience at The Abbey.
Before the Reformation in 1540, the Abbey was a community of Benedictine monks. One of the Benedictine rules is to welcome all visitors as if you were welcoming Christ himself. We continue to welcome visitors according to this Benedictine rule and our staff, volunteer stewards and guides are responsible for offering our visitors a high quality experience and warm welcome.
Behind the scenes, volunteers help with everything from fundraising to refreshments. If you have a few hours a week to spare, we would love to hear from you. In return for donating their time and skills, our volunteers receive free entry to The Abbey Exhibitions, personal training, and have the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping to preserve over a thousand years of history for future generations.
You can become a Member of our Abbey without financial commitment, although of course gifts and donations are always welcome. To learn more why not visit our Abbey Community site at: https://timecounts.org/miltonabbey

From sunny perennial meadows to prairie style and tough easy-care, green lawn substitutes, Knoll’s 4-acre garden provides an abundance of practical planting ideas in an inspirational and relaxing environment.

A mini-arboretum of rare and unusual trees and shrubs frame an abundance of grasses and flowering perennials and anyone looking to bring nature into their own garden will find themselves spoilt for ideas.
